Our range of fertility health checks include:

Ovarian Reserve Test

As women get older, there is a reduction in the number and quality of eggs left in the ovaries. The number of remaining eggs varies from woman and ovarian reserve can not be determined by age alone.

A blood test that measures levels of Anti-Mullerian Hormone – or AMH – can give an indication of the number of eggs remaining. The results are accurate even for women who are taking the contraceptive pill or on other treatment.

Research studies have shown this blood test is indicative of ovarian reserve and reproductive potential.

Test for Tubes

One in five women who face fertility problems have a problem with their fallopian tubes.

The tubes can be damaged by adhesions or scar tissue or they can be blocked. These problems can prevent the successful meeting of sperm and egg and therefore cause infertility. Figures show that around eight in 10 cases of damaged tubes are caused by a chlamydia infection.

We offer a simple blood test to assess wether your tubes may be damaged. The test measures the levels of antibodies in your blood to check if you have ever been infected with chlamydia.

Sperm Test

In around a third of couples with infertility, the main problem lies with the man. In our experience, up to half of the fertility cases involve a problem with the sperm.

This is usually because there are insufficient numbers of normal sperm available to fertilise the egg, or because of a problem with abnormally shaped sperm, sperm that doesn’t move well or a presence of antibodies.

We offer a basic and advanced semen analysis, carried out at BCRM.

Basic Sperm test: £50

Advanced Sperm Test: £150

Fertility Ultrasound Scan

Transvaginal Ultrasound Scanning (TVS) provides a picture of the uterus and ovaries. This test allows to check for problems of the ovary and womb which could affect your ability to conceive or carry a pregnancy.

It is also helpful for the following:

  • Monitoring for IVF, ICSI or other fertility treatment such as egg donation
  • Polyps, fibroids and thickness of womb lining (endometrium)
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Amenorrhoea (lack of or irregular periods)
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCO)
  • Premature menopause
  • Fluid filled damaged fallopian tubes (hydrosalpinx)

Ultrasound scans can also monitor whether the eggs are developing properly and if they are being successfully released from the ovaries. This is called ovarian follicular tracking.

We can also measure ovarian reserve using ultrasound scans of the ovary to count the number of follicles (egg sacs) within the ovary. This is known as AFC (antral follicle count). AFC is highly predictive of the number of eggs that will be collected and the likelihood of success with IVF treatment.
