HOW TO CHOOSE THE FERTILITY CLINIC MOST LIKELY TO HELP YOU HAVE YOUR IVF BABY

People looking for the best fertility clinic to help them have a baby often struggle to make a choice when they discover that official success-rate information is at least a year out of date by the time it is publicly available.

This dilemma was addressed at a recent open evening at BCRM (Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine) which treats patients from across Wales and the South West of England.

Sharing statistics showing BCRM’s current levels of success for IVF and other treatments, the clinic’s medical director, Amanda Jefferys, acknowledged that the difficulty in finding evidence of recent success rates can complicate a patient’s decision-making process, and suggested a possible solution to this problem.

Amanda Jefferys said: “Statistics are collected by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) - the official body responsible for collecting data and statistics about the fertility treatment performed each year in the UK - and these are important statistics but they’re never entirely up to date because the information takes so long to collect and analyse.

“So, when people are trying to choose which clinic to trust with the very important responsibility of helping them have a baby, it’s wise to ask what their success rate has been over the past 12 months for up-to-date indicators of success.

“It’s also worthwhile checking out reviews made by previous patients because going through fertility treatment can be a challenging journey, so you do want to be sure you’ll get the right support and be well looked after.

“The success rates for fertility treatment at BCRM are consistently in line with or exceed national averages as reported by the HFEA, and our results over the last 12 months have been particularly good.

“If you look at our results for the first eight months of 2025 for the 35- to 37-year-old age group, we achieve a 42 per cent pregnancy rate whereas the national figure is only 36 per cent.

“And our results across all age groups show a 35.8 per cent success rate, which is nearly 5 per centage points higher than the national success rate of 30.6.

“These results are for patients using their own eggs, without preimplantation genetic testing and include results from all the fresh and frozen embryo transfers that took place in 2025 between January 1st and August 31st.”

The most recent data on the HFEA website for nationwide comparison is from 2023.

Amanda Jefferys said: “Human beings are quite inefficient when it comes to conceiving babies, with a heterosexual couple having only an average 20% chance of conceiving each month anyway, and that’s assuming no underlying problems.

“But infertility is more common than many people realise: around one in six couples need to seek help for fertility problems.

“People are often surprised to learn that in the UK alone over 400,000 babies have now been born using IVF, and that today over 3% of all births are the result of fertility treatment - equating to roughly one child in every classroom.”

BCRM is an internationally recognised fertility centre, which offers a range of assisted reproductive technologies, including IVF, ICSI, IUI using partner or donor sperm, as well as ovulation induction and egg donation. Free Open Evenings, which include the opportunity for a confidential one-to-once mini consultation, are held regularly throughout the year. Register now to attend the next event.
