Valentine is a Consultant Gynaecologist, Fertility Specialist & Reproductive Surgeon. He has been treating couples with Fertility and reproductive problems since 1995 and has personally helped several hundred fulfil their dream of having a baby.
Valentine is an internationally recognised Consultant Gynaecologist, Fertility Specialist & Reproductive Surgeon.
He qualified in 1989 and has worked as a doctor in the NHS since 1991. In 2004 he was appointed Consultant Gynaecologist at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, and Honorary Senior Lecturer with the University of Bristol. He is the Lead Consultant for NHS Fertility services at Southmead Hospital.
He leads the premier Private Fertility Clinic in Bristol – the “Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine” –BCRM, and also sees patients at the Spire Bristol Hospital.
He has been treating couples with Fertility and Reproductive problems since 1995 and has personally helped several hundred fulfil their dream of having a baby.
National and International Profile:
His specialist knowledge and wealth of experience have earned him an international reputation as a Fertility Specialist, as such he has organised and chaired numerous conferences, and gives lectures both locally and internationally.
Valentine Akande was elected to the British Fertility Society’s Executive committee from 2011-2017 and chaired the scientific meetings and conferences subcommittee. He is also a Medical Performance assessor for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and the General Medical Council (GMC).
He has previously served on the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist sub-specialist training and academic committees as well as the British Fertility Society Education and Training committee.
Awards:
In 2013, he was named as one of the UK’s top 10 Fertility consultants in the prestigious Tatler Doctors Guide.
In 2004 he was awarded the “Teacher of the Year” by 4th-year medical students at the University of Bristol.

Assisted Conception/ IVF Treatment:
Valentine Akande, has lead the IVF/ICSI and Fertility Services at the BCRM since 2011 which consistently has one of the highest success rates in the UK. He has introduced innovative techniques and often visits other centres in the UK and around the world to share ideas and learn new techniques.
He is also part of a multi-centre research group that is exploring factors that affect the success of treatment and ways to improve IVF outcomes.
NHS and University roles:
In his role for the NHS, Mr Akande is the Lead Consultant for General Fertility and undertakes Fertility, Miscarriage, Reproductive Endocrine and Fibroid clinics within Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust.
He is also Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol.
Research & Training:
As part of his Fertility & Reproductive academic training, Mr Akande worked as a Clinical Research Fellow and later Clinical Lecturer in Reproductive Medicine at the University of Bristol and St. Michael’s Hospital in Bristol.
Mr Akande’s extensive research into infertility led to the attainment of a PhD in infertility and research publications in several international esteemed journals and books. He continues to undertake research and is a reviewer for several British and international medical research journals.
Training others and Courses:
Valentine Akande has run and organised several international Fertility conferences, training courses and master classes. He has also lectured and chaired numerous sessions around the world. He supervised many doctors training in fertility as well as their research projects and theses.
Surgery and Ultrasound:
Valentine Akande is an internationally recognised, advanced laparoscopic surgeon who specialises in surgery to improve fertility such as repairing Fallopian Tubes, removing Fiborids, Ovarian Cysts and endometriosis. He undertakes gynaecological ultrasound scanning as well as training other doctors.
