HAPPY ENDING FOR HAYLEY
HAPPY ENDING FOR HAYLEY AFTER LOSS OF FALLOPIAN TUBES
A Somerton woman who had both fallopian tubes removed in separate operations due to ectopic pregnancies, has said how grateful she is for the miracle of assisted fertility treatment and the skill of the team at Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine (BCRM).
Hairdresser Hayley Rawson was 31 and Covid restrictions were in full force when she was admitted to hospital as an emergency at 10 weeks pregnant in April 2021, resulting in the removal of her right fallopian tube and loss of the baby.
Ten months later a second ectopic pregnancy led to the loss of her left tube and another baby loss.
Hayley said: “That time was devastating because with both fallopian tubes gone I knew there was now no chance of becoming pregnant again naturally.”
Their GP told Hayley and husband Thomas they were eligible for fertility treatment on the NHS and gave them a list of clinics to consider.
Hayley said: “BCRM was the obvious choice for us because they have stand-out results for IVF, and ease of access was a bonus.
“I was pretty intimidated at the thought of entering a clinical setting, but I needn’t have worried, it was all very calm and relaxed.
“Seven eggs were retrieved and fertilised after my first round of treatment, which gave us six healthy embryos. One was implanted and five were frozen.
“We were incredibly lucky because that very first round of treatment produced our beautiful baby Spencer, who was born in November 2023.
“Once you’ve got one baby you’re not entitled to any more treatment on the NHS, but we paid to keep the remaining embryos frozen at BCRM, and for a second to be implanted in March 2025.
“Sadly that cycle did not end in a pregnancy, but we returned to the clinic the following month for another try and that time it was a success. FET
“Our gorgeous second son Myles was born in February, a little brother for Spencer who is also kind of his twin, since they were both created at the same time.
“We had some lovely continuity at BCRM, with the same nurse being involved in reporting back to us on the progress of our embryos in 2022, being involved in the embryo transplant that gave us Spencer in 2023 and carrying out the confirmation scan for Myles in 2025.
“I hope our story gives hope to anyone else who finds themselves in position like we did: our fertility journey had a traumatic start, but a happy ending and we’re very grateful to everyone at BCRM who made this possible.”
